MAKE Merry! Handmade photo Christmas card

December 24, 2017

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and new year. I decided to hand make our Christmas cards this year instead of the photo card that we usually do. I wasn't planning on sending a card and then at the last minute (Dec 12) I decided to make a card. I thought I'd share a little of the process.

The processs:

Mallett xmas 2017 (1 of 10).jpg

1. I designed a simple prototype of the card and then got the go ahead from the family.

2. The family posed for a quick photo in the back yard in the first snow storm we had. They all agreed to wear Santa hats. A big feat! Nicholas and Chris posed so I could get everything ready on the tripod.

Cut cards.jpg

3. I had the photos printed 2 up on a 5x7 print (Costco) and then hand cut in half.
Photo size is 2 x 5.5. Overnight printing is the best.

4. I printed the card messaging on my home ink jet printer. Each sheet of Crumb Cake card stock needed to be fed manually (front and back).  I was able to fit 3 cards on one sheet of 8.5 x 11 card stock.

5. I trimmed all the cards down to size: 3.25 x 6.5

Sewing.jpg
Sweing strings.jpg

6. I sewed quick zig zag stitch across the bottom of each card and trimmed off the excess strings.

7. Then I mounted the photos to the card.

8. I stamped HO HO HO (from Labels to Love) in Basic Black ink on Whisper White card stock and then trimmed to size (roughly .5 x 1"). I used my crop-a-dile to punch a hole in the top of each tag. I was able to punch 10 tags at a time.

9. Last I wrapped red and white baker's twine around the card and tied on the HO HO HO tag.

A few cards ended up with a few silver rhinestones added but I was worried about mailing issues so I eliminated those on most of the cards that I mailed.

There you go ... MAKING Merry. Below are a few of our photos out takes.  Merry Christmas!

LAST MINUTE SANTA - TGIF Challenge 139 - Labels to the rescue!

December 22, 2017

This weeks TGIF challenge is LAST MINUTE SANTA! Boy do I have a lot of hodgepodge last minute Santa packaging coming together. I'm all over the board as I am trying to use up my Holiday mini catalog supplies. How about you? Are you getting it all done?

Snap a quick photo of your Last Minute Santa cards, packaging, whatever and play along with us over at TGIF challenges. I know ... it's one more thing to do, but it sure is fun. #tgifc139

We are headed out of town for vacation and I need to drop off teacher gifts, neighbor gifts and other last minute goodies. I did make it to the post office last week. Whew. Self imposed chaos. Paper crafting to the rescue!

I make caramels every year. The recipe is my mom's and it's fabulous. You can find that recipe here. This year I made little sets of 3 caramels packaged in a cellophane bag with a paper topper. I used the Labels to Love stamp set to help decorate. That set sure has come in handy. I had a handful of these around for the kids to hand out.

I also made up my November Paper Pumpkin and stuffed those little stockings with caramels. Again, perfect little treats for passing out. Sorry, no pictures of those ... I forgot.

And ... I used the fun little Trim Your Stocking box die to create these paper stockings. It turned out to be another cute way to hand out treats.

This next card uses another label set. The Merry Little Labels stamp set is full of fantastic holiday tag images. All of these images (and the images from Labels to Love) coordinated with the Everyday Label punch. This set is retiring in a few short days is currently discounted (while supplies last)! See below for purchase links.

Using the Let It Snow label, I made this adorable pink, white and gold winter card. It's sweet, simple, and PINK.  I have a friend who has a pink and white Christmas tree and this card would be perfect for her. Do you like the gold Winter Wonder designer paper, gold foil snowflakes and snowflake embossing folder? These products also are retiring at the end of the year. Last chance to pick up these awesome goods.

Lots of Lavender - Global Design Project #GDP118

Hi guys! Welcome back. It's time for another Global Design Project Challenge. This week we have a sketch for you to follow along with some great inspiration on how each of the designers interpreted this sketch. Check out the GDP blog and get ready to be impressed. I sure was. Now, I'd love to see what you create using this sketch. Play along with us.

While I'm still stamping quite a bit for my Christmas gifts and various projects it's nice to take a break and create a card using some NEW products! So new in fact that I don't have a supply list ready for you.

A little about my card ... Like I mentioned, I am using new products from the Sale-A- Bration promotion and the Occasions 2018 catalog. These items are available to earn and for purchase starting January 3rd. The stamp set I'm using is called Lots of Lavender and is part of the Sale-A-Bration promotion (set is FREE with a 50$ purchase). This 11 piece set has a large beautiful 2 step flower shown on the card. The color layer of the flower has been stamped in Powder Pink and then colored in with Calypso Coral Blends. The background papers and the YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE sentiment come from the Petal Passion Memories & More Card Pack ($10.00).  I really like how this turned out. What do you think?

Now for something completely different and a little something on a personal note ... For the past couple of years I have given my Grandma 12 cards for Christmas. The gift is basically an adaptation on 12 days of Christmas where she gets to open up a card each day leading up to the 25th. I hand picked cards that I created over the last year with her in mind. She loves to make cards but has such a hard time with it now.  Last summer, we were card making and I showed her the 'This Little Piggy' stamp set  in the catalog and she was not a fan of the set at all. She did not understand who would want a pig card or want to make a pig card. I gave her this card as part of the 12 ... well, now she understands. She laughed when she opened it. My mom texted me this photo of her with her Pig card, she loved it! Ha, you see the sample sells the set. :) Love you Grandma!

A sweet card for a sweet friend! We are CASING the amazing @tinkermom85 this week @global_design_project - I love how Wendy stamped on patterned paper to add a quick pop of color. I took a similar approach and stamped the berries from the 'Filled with Sweetness' stamp set onto red patterned paper. The green stems were stamped directly onto Garden Green cardstock and then cut out and layered onto the red berries. Play along and tag your project #gdp544 The acronym CASE typically stands for Copy And Share Everything (or sometimes Copy And Selectively Edit). It refers to finding inspiration in another person's card design-such as layout, colors, or techniques, and recreating it, either exactly or with minor changes. #stampinup #filledwithsweetness #cardmaker #cardmakingideas

When I think of pastel I think watercolor. For this month our 'Use Your Stash' theme is PRETTY PASTEL. I pulled out the 'Good Greetings' stamp set and heat set the large greeting with white emboss powder. This greeting is so pretty. Then, I water painted a peachy color over the top for a soft & airy look. For the flowers I painted a few pink and peach multi-color washes and then punch out using various flower punches. The flower centers are irridescent rhinestones. Stampin' Up! products you can still purchase: Basic White cardstock, Fluid 100 watercolor Ink colors: Peach Pie, Pretty in Pink and Cloud Cover I can't wait to see what my friends pulled out from their stashes for this challenge.
