Monday Montage 189 - Etched in Nature

May 9, 2021

Hello friends. Welcome to the Montage Montage Blog hop.

This weekend has been filled with Mother’s Day activities. I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day or day celebrating those fantastic caregivers.

We took my MIL to dinner on Friday and this is the card that accompanied her gift. She enjoys birds (she just had to pull in her bird feeders due to bears). This sweet and simple card is a safe way to ‘look’ at birds. LOL.

This card is all about tiny and subtle details. I added highlight details to the bird image using a white gel pen. This bird stamps a little heavy so I wanted to break up all the black. Notice the subtle text in the background? The greeting has been stamped in Versamark ink and headset using clear emboss powder.

Global Design Project - GDP288 - Etched in Nature

April 19, 2021
gdp 288.png

Hello and welcome to this week’s Global Design Project challenge. We have a CASE the Designer challenge: Manuela Geiswinkler. Manuela is a true artist and her cards are always a great place to look for inspiration. I was really enchanted by the beautiful background she created on this card using blue, green and pink. I went for a similar look/feel on my card and I love how it turned out. The stamp set shown is called Etched in Nature and will soon be available through Stampin’ Up!

To create the background I used water brushes, classic ink and watercolor paper. I played around a few times until I achieved a similar look to Manuela’s card. I actually colored and cut the bird image out first so I could see where the color might land behind the bird. Colors used are Just Just, Misty Moonlight, Petal Pink, Soft Suede and Crumb Cake.

Blending Brush fail … but I made this card work in the end. The paper on the Specialty Embossed Cards has a little tooth and I could not get a smooth blend. Enter operation cover it all up. Haha. Masking and stamping! On this card I mask with tape, blend ink, then stamp, then stencil, and stamp again to create a layered scene. It’s so satisfying to remove the masking tape… always a fun reveal.
